Yesterday, got a visit from my Mother-in-law at about 3.30pm, she said she wanted to take me to the market by bus, I was abit nervous eventhough she is a lovely and kind lady but I wasnt sure what I was going to talk about with her, my hubby suggested that I get to know her. I know that my hubby's cooking skill came from her but I also found out after an hour talking to her that not only her cooking skill that my hubby got it from her, but also her serious-lack of humour-discipline and other conservative character. So as to not bring up any subject that might not in her cup of tea, I chose the safest subjects like cooking, recipes and gardening. There was an awkward moment where I ran out of subjects to talk about and so I could hear the sound of crickets in my head and quickly tried to find another subjects to talk about.
Thankfully, my hubby (bless him) came from work early, he was my saviour, and so we ended going to the supermarket, the three of us and I was glad I didnt have to talk much as my hubby did all the talking with his mum in the car. We dropped her at her house and she took me to her garden to show me the blood red roses that she planted, when we were about to leave, she gave me some easy recipes that she picked up at the supermarkets and chocolate buttons candy.
At the Supermarket though, my hubby asked me take some socks and tights/stockings for me as I seem to have a cold feet and always forget to wear my slipper, his mum helped me choose them.
I have to say Im not good in entertaining people as I'm not that talkative and being an introvert, I am more an observer and a good listener, that's why I like my hubby's dad more coz he talks alot about himself and his experiences without being asked.
But I think I did abit of a good job yesterday, the candy she bought me is a proof, wouldnt you say?
After a gruelling most horrible but not so starving 22 hours flight with 3 stops in Singapore, Colombo and Dubai Airports on the 25th of April I finally arrived in Gatwick Airport in one piece but sore arms as I had to carry 7 kgs handbag, sighing with relief but the journey wasn't end there, dumped the big suitcase and handbag without caring if Mark was able to get them across to the taxi waiting line, I had the misfortune in having a taxi driver which I think his child dream was to be a car racer coz I had to endure another 45 minutes feeling jetlag, sore arms, body ache and a car sickness, dont forget the bad headache probably caused by a cold strong wind that welcomed me as soon as I came out of the airport, geez talking about the cold climate of europe, I'd rather miss my hot tropical country.
So I kind of glad when I reached the residence of my husband although I felt guilty when I saw him picking me up at the airport, without saying hello first, I started ranting about how horrible the flight was and didnt notice him covering me with a warm jacket and didnt say anything to him in the car coz the nausea was too much I was afraid I was going to vommit, although the taxi driver was a friendly guy who tried to be a tour guide while driving, I couldnt careless about the scenery and just closed my eyes and really, I mean really happy that we arrived (again in one -not so- piece) at the house that Mark lives, Worthing, is what it's called.
I spent my first day on Sat sleeping and sleeping and filling myself up with food as I needed it in this cold weather, on Sunday I felt my jetlag has gone but not the nausea and the aches, but I was able to go downstairs to accompany my new husband and then he surprised me with a gift that he was suppose to gave me on saturday when I arrived but I wasnt in my best mood and health, he said. I was so touched by his warmth and kindness as he handed me a bouquet of red roses in a vase and then when I sat down in comfy big sofa, he covered my legs with a white blanket that he bought and from then on, the gifts started flowing, first he gave me on my lap, a dark chocolate, some packets of turkish delights, an easter egg chocolate, a cute singing dog soft toy and a set of aromatherapy bath cream and candle. He also bought me a fluffy thick white robe for shower complete with the hair towel and body as well as for the face in a set.
I also were given gifts from his mother, a welcome to England card, a homemade cookies that she made just for me, a pair of house fluffy slippers and a big bolster. When I met her on Monday to have lunch with mark's parents, they are a very friendly and loving couple, they seem to try to make me feel at home, Mark took me and his mum for shopping at Marks & Spencer the next day and he bought lots of warm outfits, I was specially touched when we had to walk back to the car and she asked me to run as she didnt want me to feel cold and even stopped for a moment to zip my jacket as if I was a baby, I was surprised that she is that kind.
I guess my horrible flight is paid off by the kindness of Mark and his family, and I think England isnt so bad at all.
